Al Romanov

State Exam Is Done!

Ambient

Half past one at night, the lamp burns my eyes

My fifth energy drink is finished on the desk

I've been cramming law for three damn years straight

So a guy in a suit could give me work to do

Mom is crying: "Look how big you've grown!"

Even though I've sent them resumes by the ton

A red-covered book lies deep inside my pocket

And where you get it? Damn, I have no clue at all!

Forget the Civil Code and court plenums today!

Our life is changing cities as we speak and play!

Take off your jacket, kill your study table lamp!

We turn our career crash into fun and champagne pop!

Hey, graduate, drop all your lecture notes!

Fate can't be built, it's not up to us to try!

All graduates like us are dancing tonight!

State exam is done — let's party, brothers!

But that alarm will ring exactly at seven AM

Instead of gowns — brand new office suits on

It's time again to punch the clock for them!

(Oh-oh-oh! Graduates on the dance floor!)

The girl across just looks at me with scorn

"You're quite a pro, but we'll be thinking,"

Their standard smile is way too light and worn

But they just ask to fetch some coffee for the princess

They promise golden mountains in a year now

Just serve your probation first and slave away

Of nerve cells and my soul, what can I say!

Forget the Labor Code and quarterly bonuses!

Today our plans went fully virtual and flawless!

Take off your tie, hide that employment record far!

We're burning through this crazy youth so fast and raw!

"Open to work" status glowing on the screen

Hey, boss man, wait for me, don't leave the scene!

Today I defended country, rights, and justice

Now I'm hunting for a mortgage income statement stub!

To hell with internships! To hell with "no prior entry"!

We're dancing here defying all their spreadsheets!

"The labor market situation has stabilized

"Objection sustained! Let there be dancing!"

Final decision...Employment contract on the desk

Alright, I'll call them back tomorrow once again
